Nice article. Nelson liked Milford particularly because it contained one Mrs Hamilton.....

Years before I moved to Pembs I had a holiday in Minorca and took a boat trip around Mahon harbour. Our guide announced that it is the third largest natural DEEP WATER harbour in the world, Pearl Harbour being the largest and Milford Haven being second. Plenty of different ways to measure of course.

In Esso London HQ fifty years ago we were told the 250000 ton tankers entering Milford had a draft of 62 feet fully laden and were in a channel with a depth of just 65 feet! They offloaded half before taking the rest to Fawley where it is much shallower.
