Indoor Games / Texas Holdem Poker
May 27, 2016, 03:43:15 pm
There are many forms of Poker, but Texas Holdem is the foremost version.  It is the form that is used in modern professional tournaments, because the skill element far outweighs the luck element.

If you have enjoyed a friendly game of Poker (of any variety) in the past, then you are invited to join this proposed group.  Texas Holdem is easy to learn, and is great fun.  Full training will be given in the mechanics of the game prior to starting.

There shall be NO GAMBLING with real money.  Instead, each player is allocated a standard amount of notional chips.  Initially we shall play for fun, but later, then we all get the hang of it, we can organise tournaments.

At the moment we are having weekly-ish training session, where we have a period of instruction, followed by an hour's worth of play.

If you are interested in joining one of these sessions then please contact David Pinch on 01646 694149, or e-mail davidpinch5213@btinternet.com.

Indoor Games / How to Play Diplomacy Board Game
May 09, 2015, 02:21:04 pm
The following website is a fun tutorial on how to play Diplomacy.

At the next Computer Group meeting (28 May 2015) I shall give a talk entitled "How to Write Software".  I have written software to be used as an example.  It plays the game of Nim, Computer vs Player.  I have used the computer language C# (pronounced C sharp) for this.

The attached document explains how the software works, and will give you a flavour of what is involved.

If you have more than a passing interest I would recommend that you read the document before the meeting.  If you would like the executable to play with and against, then I am happy to e-mail it to you if you request it.  My contact details are:
