If your email archive is still on an IMAP server rather than just locally on your PC then it should be straightforward.

The 2 should be able to co-exist side-by-side while you make your mind up.

Mike

I switched from POP to IMAP about a year ago, but my Outlook archive goes back to quite a number of years.

I've never used Outlook (nor the express version) so no experience.

However, Googling "thunderbird import outlook" gives lots of potentially useful hits.

It may also be possible to export data from Outlook and then import it to Thunderbird.

I'll give the first vote to Thunderbird.  I have 4 different accounts running on it.  They all download on startup.  It is relatively simple to set up filters to direct mail to local folders on your PC.  You can use IMAP or POP.

Have a look at https://www.mozilla.org/en-GB/thunderbird/features/
